Culture - Heritage

For thousands of years, bamboo has forged a powerful bond with human life: providing food, shelter and warmth to the Chinese people for generations. With such a long history of cultivation, bamboo has taken on a central cultural role in China; it has become a living metaphor for the tenacity, longevity, and natural joy of life. Bamboo goes beyond being an iconic representation of China, it has also been a crucial factor in the preservation of China’s natural environment by helping to regulate its climate, preserve its rich land, and conserve its water resources. It is not just an inherent part of China’s image, but actively helps maintain the natural beauty of China’s landscape and the health of its people.

Quality Spirit:
In China, bamboo has several important metaphorical significations that relate to its physical form and represent different positive character traits that also exemplify our core business values:
First, the luxuriant green bamboo forest is an elegant symbol of a distinguished noble character. Second, the hollow within the bamboo represents humility and an open mind. Third, the nodes in the bamboo’s stem symbolise a firm and indomitable spirit that continues on its rise, from strength to strength. Fourth, bamboo’s straight, undeviating growth represents integrity of character
Bamboo is an excellent construction material. It is both exceptionally strong, with a tensile strength greater than steel, and highly durable as it is harder than most varieties of wood. In its laminated form, it presents a pleasant natural wood grain appearance which can be finished in several ways according to preference.
As the fastest growing plant on the planet, with certain species capable of growing over a metre a day, bamboo has an average harvesting cycle of only 3-5 years, compared to several decades for commercial timber species. From the perspective of global warming prevention this is an essential factor in its favour, as it sequesters Carbon dioxide at a much higher rate than in traditional forest replenishment.
Unlike tree woods, bamboo does not require replanting, with new shoots sprouting from the cut plant, leaving the root system intact. This means that the topsoil in which it is cultivated remains undisturbed, greatly reducing water runoff and soil erosion and protecting the land on which it is grown.
Bamboo requires neither pesticides nor fertilizers to reach impressive growth rates, avoiding the release of these harmful chemicals into the environment. In fact, because it has a naturally high nitrogen content, it can help improve the quality of water in areas where it is cultivated.
